Why May Sometimes Makes Me A Little Crazy

Sometimes, by the time we get done with May, I have nearly developed an ulcer and a nervous tick.  I think it is because if each one of my 4 kids has (what feels like) 50 activities, that's 200 activities, just for my kids!  And that doesn't include the extras we add in for Dustin and myself.  It is definitely our time of life to be ruled by our kid's schedules, and I am really generally OK with this.  (Just don't pay too much attention to the glazed look in my bloodshot eyes...)
Grant made it to the school and the district finals for Book Battles.  They ended up getting 4th overall.
I went to a day of Women's Conference with my friends.  I'm trying to get a hold of the really sweet picture of us dressing up in my friend's old 80's prom dresses at her mom's house, but in the meantime, you can just imagine how awesome that looked.  We have a lot of fun together.
After almost 2 years, Avery got her braces off!!

Ryan had a season of flag football (he has been begging for football for years!).  It added some crazy to have him in 2 sports, as we knew it would, but he needed to get the football bug out of his system.
It was Mother's Day!  This didn't add too much crazy, because it is one of my favorites.

My parents came up for Avery's last orchestra concert.  She was first chair and did wonderfully.  Gramma Lana was also able to come.

She also had her last track meet.  She did great this season!  It is fun to watch her improve.
Maren had her last band concert the same week as Avery, so the grandparents saw them both, which was fun!  Maren plays the baritone and also does really well.

Maren also had a great track season and made it to the District event.
While my parents were here, I utilized their expertise for some projects around the yard that we never seem to have time for.  We got the net put on the trampoline, a new rung put on our playhouse ladder, the garden rototilled and fenced in, and some outdoor stairs fixed.  And we did it all just before the rain started.  Whew!
All of those yard jobs were in preparation for my preschool graduation.  And, speaking of stress, we have had the wettest spring on record, which caused a little bit of stress for me with preschool graduation usually taking place in my backyard (my basement won't fit the 75-ish people that come).  After many prayers and only a little panicking, there was no rain the night of our graduation and we were able to do it outside!
One of my preschoolers gave me this sweet doormat.  I love it!

Avery finished driver's ed and passed her driving test!  This took up a couple of hours every Saturday for the month of May, and she was very nervous for her test, so we were so glad when she passed and was done!  Now we just wait until she is actually 16.
Dustin coached Grant's soccer team this year.  Grant missed the first half of the season because of his appendix being removed, but he was able to join back up and play the last half.  Because of all the other kid's activities, I didn't even get to watch one full game, but I saw bits and pieces of a couple of his games and it was fun to see how much they had improved from the Fall.

Ryan also finished up his soccer season.  Our neighbor, Daniel, was on his team again this year, so that was fun for them both.
Grant was selected to go to the District Decathlon.  Dustin was the chauffeur for this one because it landed on a preschool day.

Grant also made it to the District STEM Olympiad and competed in Scratch, which is coding.  Grant has had a busy month!
The 6th graders had their Renaissance Fair, and I was able to help with the breakfast in the morning.  My job was to give the kids their silverware, after they sang me a song.  Fun job!  Ryan ended up with a costume, thanks to the neighbor who rescued me the night before Renaissance, after I put a request out for costumes on facebook.  It takes a village.

At the same time, Grant was doing the 4th grade Mountain Man Rendezvous.  Thank goodness that Dustin has a flexible job, and he was able to come and help with that activity.  I snuck away from Ryan's thing to snap a picture of Grant and Dustin doing their things.

Since we had nothing else to do this month, we also started a little yard project.  Our neighbors are tearing out their whole yard, so while they had a tractor, we had them take out a chunk of our front yard (that had bad grass on it) and our mini golf course from the back yard.  So we have been working on getting that all finished up for the last couple of weeks.
Nice new sod!
Since becoming Bishop of our ward, Dustin has had the opportunity to perform two marriage ceremonies.  This most recent one was our neighbor and friend, Todd, who married his fiance', Angela.  That was pretty special for Dustin to be able to be a part of it.  We have known Todd for 10 years and he is a good friend.
We celebrated a rainy (surprise, surprise) Memorial Day in Logan, in the morning with Dustin's mom, and in the afternoon with his Dad.  Memorial Day happened to fall on Kathy's birthday this year, so Rod came out and we met at the cemetery and then went over to Dustin's aunt Julia's for lunch and to visit with lots of family.  It was a nice day.

Grant played the piano in his 4th grade talent show.
Jen and her family came and stayed with us for a couple of nights.  They are homeless, after selling their house this week.  It was fun to have them sleep over, before they head to Cedar to stay with my parents, until they can find a house.  While they were here, our neighbor had a 22 foot blow up slide in their driveway, so we all went and played on it.

I helped with the boy's Field Day during the last week of school.  I always like to help with this one.  And the weather complied, with no rain until later on in the day, so that was nice!
At the end of the week we had the last day of school, and Ryan's 6th grade graduation.  Wow!  Time is flying by!  Just like that, we only have one more child in elementary school.

The high school kids got out of school a couple of days before everyone else (which Avery loved to remind her siblings of), so she got to hang out with me for a couple of days and be a supportive sister.
Now that May, school, preschool, sports, and yard are all done, we can hopefully take a little mental health break this summer.  I cancelled piano and didn't plan summer field trips (which made us all a little sad), and I'm hoping that we can take some time to learn about something that really interests us, sleep in a little, maybe read a book or two, and be good and ready for school to start back up in a few months.  Wish us luck!
