Last week started out with ending the quarantine and having cupcakes with cousins for Abi and Lili's birthday. We figured out that it had been 6 months since we had seen some of these local cousins! It was fun to get together again, even if it was just for a couple of hours.
That night, Avery had "Prom" with her friends. They dressed up and had pictures, dinner and swimming and outdoor games. She had fun. We had bought this dress online a few months ago when we were looking for a Sweetheart's Dance dress, and we kept it for a future dance, or in this case, a future Prom that they didn't actually even dance at. Ha ha! Oh well. I'm glad they made some sort of effort for normalcy.
The boys felt like trying out their cake decorating skills. It probably would have been a little better if we hadn't used powdered eggs... They don't quite hold things together the way regular ones do. But, we were out of eggs. #quarantinelife
We also did some fun puzzles.
It was mine and Dustin's 19th anniversary this week! Wow, 19 years sounds so long! The last 3 months have felt like 19 years! Just kidding. We love quarantine.
We went to dinner at a Mongolian BBQ place that was almost exactly 19 miles from our house (first time we've eaten inside a restaurant in a while and there were only a few people in there with us). There were lots of cute masks as decor. After dinner we drove around Farmington for a while and came upon a trailhead behind Lagoon. It ended up being a secluded wooded trail, right in the middle of a city and neighborhood. We loved it so much, I made the kids come check it out the next day. But they weren't as excited about it as Dustin and I had been. Go figure.
There was so much cotton it was like snow!
On Thursday afternoon we drove to a campground near Grand Junction, Colorado and met Monica and James and their family, who have been traveling across the country, pulling a trailer and camping. Other than the freeway on one side of the campground, and a well used train track on the other side, it was a really nice place to camp! There was a fishing hole, and a swimming pond and it was close to a really fun hike, that we took advantage of the next day.
There were a couple of spots along the hike where the river had been dammed and a swimming hole had formed and it was so refreshing to play in the water after hiking in almost 100 degree weather. The kids loved it!
And the adults liked it, too.
The area was rugged and secluded.
We cooled off again that evening with swimming in the pond.
Later that evening, a crazy wind storm blew in, just as Dustin and James were trying to fix something on the trailer (of course) and the kids were down at the lake fishing (of course). It made for an adventurous few minutes as we tried to get everyone into the protection of the trailer. And, it brought rain with it, which cooled us down a lot in the night and also made everything really wet the next morning when it was time to pack up. The rain stopped just long enough for us to pack up our camping stuff and started again just as we got on the road to head to Goblin Valley. We encountered another crazy storm while we driving, which even forced us to pull over for a bit to let it pass.
By the time we got to Goblin Valley, the skies were clearing and the sun was out, and we had a great time playing on the rocks.
We had an awesome game of hide and seek among the hoodoos.
We explored for a couple of hours and then it was time to get back on the road. The Noonans, plus Maren and Grant, headed south to Grandma and Grandpa's, and we headed north to home. What a fun few days with our cousins!
