At the end of June we got some visitors! Monica and James and their family came from Illinois. Nicole came a couple of days later.
When Monica is in town, she helps me enjoy my beautiful mountains and we go hiking nearly every day!
Some of my sisters and our kids all met at Lagoon one afternoon. We took turns riding rides or taking care of Nicole's little ones. It was kind of the best way to do Lagoon.
The next day all the boys (mine and Monica's, including the husbands) went to our ward's Young Men Camp. They had a great time and us girl's had a great time back at home.
One of the nights we had a sister dinner at a Thai/Pizza restaurant. Super random, but pretty tasty!
More hiking for me and Monica!
A walk instead of a hike on this day.
And, another hike, this time with Maren and Laney to a beautiful, cool waterfall near my house.
On Saturday, the boys all got back from camping, and we hurried up to Logan for the Logan Cruise In with Dustin's family. Arie and Isabel were in town and Rod was driving his truck in the car parade. Everyone took a turn riding with him.
The next day we left for Cedar City to start our annual Shurtz Reunion. We started the event with a cherry pit spitting contest.
And then the neighbor's field started on fire, so that was exciting! (And stinky)
On Monday we went up to my parent's property at Brian Head and hung out, rode 4-wheelers and ate dutch oven food. It was much cooler up there and so beautiful!
Tuesday was the 4th of July! We had a traditional Cedar City 4th, with a parade, games at the city park and Hermies for lunch. We ended the night with free hot dogs and a hot wings contest at the Enoch City park and then fireworks at the airport.
The next morning was the start of our official reunion, and we headed down to St. George, where we were staying. Jen and I were in charge of the activities for the reunion, so we first planned to go to the Brigham Young home and do a tour and then we went to the oldest store in St. George for ice cream and candy. We ended the night with dinner and then a family bingo game (with our faces on the bingo cards).
The bingo prizes were a hit!
We actually really ended the night with a midnight walk for those of us who were still up (there were some husbands around, including Dustin, but they didn't get in the picture).
The next morning some of the boys went on a bike ride (which ended with Liam wrecking...). To beat the St. George heat, we then spent a good chunk of the day at Quail Lake. The house we rented offered paddle boards, kayaks and other water toys, so we took advantage of them!
We made do with the life jackets we had on hand! Haha!
Liam recovering after his fall off the bike.
We had an adult dinner that night at an Italian restaurant. And then yummy ice cream dessert back with the kids.
The next morning was filled with babies and pickleball.
And a family trivia game about all the crazy things the adults did as children!
It was Ryan's 16th birthday that day!! He really wanted to get his license on his birthday, so I set up an appointment at the Hurricane DMV so he could go pick it up.
It is hard to believe we have another driver at our house! Ryan is such a great part of our family. He is always wanting to be out doing something fun and he is great at giving me hugs and showing love. He makes us laugh a lot and is not too proud to laugh at himself when he does something silly. He is a hard worker and a great kid!
His birthday dinner was homemade Applebees honey pepper chicken mac-n-cheese (I was in charge of dinner that night). After dinner we went to a park to have a water balloon battleship game, which turned into a 30 second water balloon fight. Then we ate birthday cake and for Ryan, a big birthday donut. The night ended with most of the Noonan family and Maren leaving for Illinois to go to FSY in Missouri a couple of days later.
One more hike in the morning the next day, and then back to Cedar and on to our respective homes. It was a fun week with family!
And, Dustin won the pool tournament at my parents that afternoon and his prize was a wallet, made by my dad.
