February seemed to take forever for me this year, but March was the opposite! As I look at these pictures, I feel like all of this just happened yesterday! Monica and Liam and Nicole and Flora came out for my Grandpa Montgomery's funeral at the beginning of the month. It was nice to spend time with them and we had a fun couple of days together before heading to Idaho for the funeral. We took the older kids to the temple in Ogden to do Baptisms for the dead, and that was awesome.
And then the adults went together that night. I love the temple! It joins heaven and earth!
We squeezed in Rummikub whenever we could. It's a Shurtz thing.
Monica and I did a trail run/walk and it was cold but refreshing.
We did a sister's lunch at Zupas (of course).
And the conversation was exciting and stimulating!
We hung out with cousins whenever we could.
The girls were up from Provo so that we could leave early the next morning for Idaho and Grandpa's funeral.
On the drive, we realized that we were almost out of gas, and by a miracle, in the Middle of Nowhere, we saw a gas station!
We did have to pay an arm and a leg for it, but we didn't care.
The funeral was so nice. It was a lovely tribute to the patriarch of our family. I am so grateful for the chance we've had to get to know Grandpa better over the years since I've had children. I really grew to get to know him in a different way and love him better!
Grandkids (32, but we are missing a few).
Great Grandkids (53, and 2 great great grandkids).
We went back to the house after to look around and reminisce. We will miss going to the Farm!
After Grandma died, Grandpa became a picture hoarder. He covered all his walls with pictures of her.
This is one of my favorites. She was elected some sort of queen and he danced with her at the ball. They were still in high school.
Maren loved the wall paper in his bathroom. I have only been in there a few times in my life!
The boys got to take a hat from his collection. (And they were really excited for me to take their picture)
The next week we had a couple of days off of school, so while Ryan was gone on a Choir Trip, Dustin and Grant went skiing.
And I went down to Provo to hang out with the girls.
On a Saturday, we grabbed Gramma Lana and the girls and went to the Manti Temple Open House. The line was LONG to get in--3 hours! But the temple was beautiful and worth the wait.
It was a little cold for Lana, but a nice man shared his blanket with her.
Dustin and the boys went hiking one night while I went to Relief Society. We are loving the longer hours of daylight that March has brought!
Dustin and I went to a production of The Lamb of God that our friend sang in. It was beautiful!
And, we met friends while we were there and sat by them.
We've had every kind of weather this month! Hail, rain, snow, sun, crazy wind.
Ryan started Lacrosse at the high school! He'd actually never seen a lacrosse game before he tried out... but it is a newer team and they are building it and everyone made it! He has done a good job of being committed to his busy practice and game schedule.
Avery was up here this week to work at Mrs. Cavanaugh's. They needed the seasonal help, and she doesn't start her job at BYU until this coming week, so we got to enjoy her in the evenings all week. That was fun! While the rest of us had youth activities and practice, Dustin and Avery went on an excursion to see the new Layton Temple that will be opening soon.
Ryan had a Region Choir Festival this week and they made it to State!
We also had a banquet for the Lacrosse team and parents. The owner of this garage is a friend of the Lacrosse team and he let us all come and gawk at his cars (and Ryan and Dustin both actually got to start one). Pretty amazing!
We had an Easter Egg Hunt with the local cousins. Since everyone is getting older, Lynnette found a new way to do the hunt. We put one letter of each name of a candy or prize in an egg, and as they found an egg, they would bring us the letter and match it to one of the words (the name of the prize). The person who brought the last needed letter to finish the word, got the prize. It took almost an hour to find all the eggs and earn all the prizes and the kids loved it! We will definitely do it again that way next year.
Maren rode the train home yesterday (Avery was still here) and we had a happy Easter celebration today. We had a nice Sacrament Meeting at Church and then the kids found their Easter baskets hidden around the house. We had a nice dinner here in the afternoon with Gramma Lana and Grandpa Wiberg, Briana and Matthew, and our neighbor (whose family was out of town). We worked on food all day yesterday so today didn't require much prep, and Briana and Lana helped bring stuff, as well. It was a nice day!
I am so thankful for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ! He is the hope we have of eternal life with our loved ones. He is the light that lights the world. He is the reason for love and joy and peace in this life. I love Him!
