Dustin and I started off Labor Day weekend with a much needed overnight getaway. We left the kids with Avery in charge (I know!! She is a Senior in High School, so it seemed like this was ok). We stayed at a cute little bed and breakfast in American Fork, slept in and then had a delicious breakfast in bed.
We got take out for dinner and ate it at the Mount Timpanogas Temple parking lot and then walked around the temple grounds.
Saturday afternoon we did a little hiking in Pleasant Grove Canyon.
Dustin wanted to drive around the west side of Utah Lake, so we did and discovered Camp Tracy over there!
We got an email this week that Maren had been exposed to Covid-19 from her volleyball team. So, I had her and I both go get tested for Corona so that I could start preschool when her quarantine ends at the end of the week (she was already a week into quarantine when we got the email). We opted for the less invasive saliva test at the U of U and we are both negative. Yay! Preschool starting has been postponed by a week, but the timing of that ended up being a blessing because we ended up having a natural disaster (see below).
The kids and I picked apples at our neighbor's house.
Grant got a new bike! Dustin took him and Ryan biking on Labor Day.
That night we had an Arctic Storm blow in. It went from 90 degrees on Monday to a feels like temperature of 34 degrees on Tuesday! We even had snow for a minute! The other thing it brought was 100 mile an hour wind gusts. We woke up Tuesday morning to our power going out (it wasn't restored until Friday at 10:30 A.M.) and our neighbor's trees tipping over!
We lost our fence.
We went that morning and bought one of the last chainsaws at the store and then spent the next two days helping cut down and haul off the trees from our neighbor's yards for 12 hours straight. We had a huge crew of neighbor's and youth and it was a fun (maybe fun is the wrong word...fulfilling? makes you feel good to serve?) project, although definitely sad to see those huge 50 year old trees come down!
Considering the nature of this storm and the size of the trees that blew over, there wasn't a huge amount of home damage. It was no fun to be out of power for 3 1/2 days, but we stayed warm and friend's fed us dinner for two days, so I didn't have to worry about that. Work and school were cancelled for Tuesday and Wednesday, which was a blessing so that Dustin and the kids could help with cleanup. There was a nice sense of unity with our neighbor's and ward members that we have been missing for the last 6 months of Covid quarantine and limited church meetings. People were so grateful for the service and it was nice to serve. We were so thankful to have our power come back on on Friday!! Electricity is a blessing! Neighbor's are a blessing! Lots of blessings this week!
