We Finally Got Covid But Then We Got Better And Did Some Fun Things

Well, it finally happened.  And it didn't just happen, it HAPPENED (in all capital letters)!  Remember all those fun things we did with family the week after Christmas?  It actually ended up that we were hosting Corona Virus super spreader events.  Who knew?!  Grant started us all out by getting a sore throat and a fever on New Year's Eve, but by a day or so later, he was feeling mostly better, and I assumed that he had the cold that one of my sister's family had a week earlier, since we had all been together (they had tested three of their kids and all had tested negative for Covid).  Nicole's family left on New Year's Day, and one of her kids was sick on the drive back to Cali.  Within a couple of days, her whole family was sick, but Grant was better, except for a stomachache that he ended up coming home from school on Tuesday for.  That afternoon I took him to the doctor to check for strep throat and as an after thought, and to cover all my bases for preschool, I had them do a Covid test, as well.  I was so surprised when that test came back positive!  What???  A day or so later, Maren was sick, and I had mild symptoms.  A few days after that, Ryan had a sore throat.  All the grandparents got sick.  Multiple cousins and their parents got sick.  This variant really is so contagious.  Within a week, Utah's numbers had skyrocketed and the week after Ryan had it, the Junior High had gone to remote learning for a few days.  I cancelled preschool for 2 weeks and Dustin worked from home.  We are SO grateful that for our family, it was an annoying and inconvenient but mild illness.  All of our grandparents and family members recovered well.  We know for so many it is much worse, and we feel so thankful that for us, it wasn't.

Lots of nasal swabs occurred (which we don't think were totally accurate)

My family sent us yummy cupcakes to cheer us up.
Maren had asked someone to the Sweetheart's Dance just before she got sick, and she got answered during our quarantine.

Eventually we were all feeing better, and just finishing out our quarantine.  Maren and I never actually tested positive, but we assume the test was wrong and we had it, too.  Dustin never had any symptoms and so he never had to be tested.
We sold the Saturn!  It was a bittersweet day for us.  It was the first car we bought together, before Avery was born.  We owned it for 19 years!  It was a really reliable car for us, albeit it had some interesting quirks.  Only the passenger side window rolled down (we broke the driver side window's rolling capabilities as we drove it away after buying it, when I tried to roll it down with a price paper taped to the window...).  We got as much as Dustin had hoped we would for it, and more than I thought we would.  He had seller's remorse for a few days after, but it was time.
We went running in the cold with Maren, and then she laid on the frosty grass and her body heated it up, which looked cool.
We went to Midway on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  We walked around the town, had yummy dessert, went to the Ice Castles, and had dinner at a fun restaurant.  Dustin found some trees that he thinks are Utah records for size (he does that).

The Ice Castles were amazing!  So beautiful and unique!  And cold!

The young men in our ward played live Hungry Hippo.

Maren had an indoor track meet at BYU and she did great!  Avery came over to watch with us and we went to lunch and for ice cream after.

Maren's fingernails randomly matched the rainbow on the wall at the ice cream place.  So weird!

And Dustin and Grant started a bonsai tree!
