First Ever Sister Trip For Carolyn

Last week I went on my first ever Sister's Trip.  My sisters and I all flew in to San Diego and met up for a long weekend.  It was so wonderful!  We've talked about doing it for years, and we finally all have kids old enough that we can comfortably ditch our husband's with them, plus Nicole is a couple of months away from having another baby, and then we would need to wait a few years again.  So we took advantage of the perfect timing and the amazing, willing husbands, and we had a wonderful weekend, relaxing and playing in San Diego!

Utah sisters got to fly together.  Yay!  Monica met us Thursday night and we ate a yummy dinner near our hotel, visited and went to bed early.  The next morning Monica, Jen and I went for a run around the dock.  The sunrise was beautiful and it was fun to watch the fisherman coming in with their big tuna to sell.  Lynnette was taking it easy after tripping and falling the night before.  Her comment is still my favorite: "Why did we wait to do a sisters trip until we are all geriatric?!"  Haha!

Nicole flew in that morning and we checked out of our hotel, grabbed some delicious breakfast and ate it on the beach while we watched the surfers.

Then we hurried to our whale watching tour.  It was chilly out on the water, so we all put hoods and sunglasses on and felt like quintuplets.  Every time I look at this picture, I think I am in the green, but that is actually Nicole.  Haha!
We did see some whales.

After whale watching, we went to the Cabrillo National Monument, looking for tide pools, and passed this cool cemetery on our way.  The tide pools were closed by the time we got there, thanks to a stop for ice cream and a bathroom at a creepy hippy beach.  Bummer!  But, I did get a squished penny and a National Park stamp, so that was cool.

We ate dinner that night in Little Italy.  It was so delicious!

We bought some desserts and took them back to our airbnb to eat later that night.  They were also so delicious!  I think everything must taste better when you are eating it with sisters on vacation.
The next morning Monica and I got up early to go running again, this time at LaJolla beach.  The animals were out but not the people, and it was kind of magical.

We found a little cute church and peeked in.
We got back to the airbnb just in time to hurry and get ready and leave for the San Diego Temple.  It is a gorgeous temple, inside and out.  It was so neat to be there with all of us!

Later that afternoon we rented pedal boats and pedaled around the harbor.  That was fun!

And that night we explored Old Town San Diego.  We had dinner at a yummy Mexican restaurant, shopped and visited the Mormon Battalion site.

Sunday morning we got up and went to church at a ward in San Diego.  It was nice.  After church we made sandwiches and took them to LaJolla Beach again.  It was so beautiful the first time, that Monica and I really wanted to go back with everyone.  There were a lot more people this time.

We saw Momma seals feeding their pups.  So cute!  There were tons of seals in the harbor and they just swam all around the people swimming and snorkeling.
We drove back to Cabrillo National Monument later that day, in the hopes of being able to see the tide pools.  We also saw the monument and a lighthouse, and a beautiful view of the bay.

We finished up just as the sun was getting ready to set, so we found a great lookout spot and watched it set over the ocean.  It was amazing!

We made breakfast sandwiches for dinner back at our airbnb.  We had to get up very early for our flight back home the next morning.  It was such a fun, relaxing, rejuvenating long weekend with my sisters!  It was great to talk and laugh and play games and eat delicious food and have fun adventures.  I am so grateful for each of them!
Matching sweatshirts (imagine Monica standing here matching, too)
