We had a lot of exciting things happen in April. For instance, Ryan buzzed his hair. It was a big topic of conversation for the weeks before. Would he really do it? How short would he buzz it? Would he regret it after? Peer pressure won, and his friend buzzed it for him. He did really do it, it wasn't too short, and he did not regret it after.
Two days after we got back from Spring Break, Grant turned 13! All my kids are teenagers right now! What a fun time of life we are in. Grant wanted an ice cream cake for his birthday (he doesn't really like regular cake). I made a last minute decision to make it rather than buy it because a) I'm cheap and they are very expensive to buy, b) All the pre made ice cream cakes also had regular cake in them and he didn't want that, and c) My love language is making birthday cakes. So, I made him the cake, and because it was a blizzard that night and Grandma Lana had to drive home in it, we pulled it out of the freezer a little prematurely and it was kind of melty. But, it tasted great, and it tasted even better the next day when it had frozen solid. We enjoyed his birthday cake all week.
It is hard to believe that my youngest is a teenager! Grant is growing up so much! He is smart, funny, fun, loving, organized and creative. He is a master at anything he can do with his hands (legos, crocheting, art, sewing, circuit boards, etc.). He is a great student and a great leader. He is currently serving as Deacon's Quorum President in our ward. We are so glad he is part of our family! We love him!
The day after Grant's birthday, we had another exciting event. Avery received her mission call! We drove down to Provo to watch her open it. It was fun to guess and anticipate where she would get called. She did it over zoom so our extended family and friends could participate.
She got called to the Seattle, Washington Mission, speaking Spanish! We are so excited for her! She will start her mission with home MTC on July 25th, and then go to the Mexico MTC and then on to Seattle. My brother, Chad, served in the Seattle Mission and he still lives in the area, as well as his daughter, Khalina. We've been to Seattle a few times as a family and we love the city! We're so proud of her for her desire to serve the Lord!
All the guesses of where she would be called.
A couple of days later we had our next exciting event: Prom for Maren!
We had the Hanchett's staying with us for a couple of days while their parents stayed with their Grandma Hanchett, who was dying. It was a sad reason to have them over, but we were happy to spend the time with them.
And the next day was Easter! So much excitement going on around here! We had Grandma Lana and Grandpa Wiberg over for Easter dinner.
Ryan was the winner on finding the gross egg during the Easter egg hunt. It was a lint ball with a sucked on cough drop. Fun and Exciting!
A few days later I drove down to help Avery get moved out of her apartment and back home. Yay! Her freshman year of college is done! (This picture is actually a few days before that, when I drove down to help her get her passport ordered so she can go to Mexico for the MTC. Lots of driving back and forth between Provo during this month.)
She moved into Ryan's room and he moved back in with Grant.
Track season and soccer season are in full swing for the younger three kids. It keeps us very busy, but it is so fun to watch them run and jump! Long Jump for Grant and High Jump for Ryan. Maren runs the 800 and the mile and occasionally the 4X400 relay.
And there you have it! It was a busy, exciting and fun month of April!
