August came so quickly! Once our family all went home at the end of July, we had to hustle to do some final preparations for Maren's mission and to get ready for the boys to go back to school. School started extra early this year! So, we were already in the thick of school things by the time August started.
Avery is working in the Finance Major department at BYU as an office assistant. She is enjoying it!
I learned how to hem pants (again)! These were for Maren's mission. I had to do a zoom call with seamstress Jen, but I was able to make them presentable and I even hemmed a pair of Dustin's pants afterwards. I feel so domestic.
Maren had physical therapy three times a week after her surgery. Her knee was getting stronger every day! A miracle!
Our niece, Jasmine, got married and had a reception up at Bear Lake.
Maren got set apart as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on August 4th. On time! Her knee was healed enough and she was cleared by the doctor and physical therapist to start! She started home MTC the next morning and did that for a week and a half.
It was so fun to have her home, learning how to be a missionary! At lunch and at breaks throughout the day, we loved hearing about the things she was doing and learning. She got along well with her companion, Sister Pikus, and that made it more exciting for her when she went to the Provo MTC.
Avery came up and spent a lot of time with her before she left, which was fun.
Snail facial.
She left for the MTC on a Wednesday, and the boys had a cross country race that morning. So we went and watched them and then hurried down to Provo to drop her off.
Goodbye Pepper!
Lunch at Bok Bok before she had to leave.
Our sad goodbye's on BYU campus.
And then a quick drop off at the Provo MTC! We are so proud of Maren and her desire to serve and teach people about Jesus Christ! I can't wait to see how she uses her unique gifts to bless the people in Roseville, California! She is awesome and has so much faith! We love her!
We were all feeling a little melancholy after that, so we decided to utilize our Get Out Pass from the summer and do an Escape Room. It was fun, and don't worry, we saved the post WWII world from a nuclear fall out from Russia! You're welcome!
We also bought Avery groceries from the grocery store I worked at in college.
And, the very next day was the first day of school for the boys! Ryan is a Senior (!!) and Grant is a Sophomore! Crazy! It is so nice to have them in the same school. It is the first time I have only had one school to deal with since Avery was in 6th grade!
Pepper and I felt awkward and lonely for the first couple of days of having everyone gone. We weren't sure what to do with ourselves!
But, pretty quickly, the busy-ness of life kicked back in and we were finding things to look forward to and be excited about. Both boys asked dates to the Homecoming Dance, and were answered a short time later.
We hiked.
Ryan dressed in white for a football game (with HUGE pants that he found at DI).
We went to an art show, featuring our awesome Gramma Lana!
Lots of Cross Country is happening.
I drove to Provo and helped Avery get moved out of her Summer apartment and then a couple of days later, moved into her new Fall apartment. She is living with her former mission companion now and they are having way too much fun!
We deer proofed our garden this year, and also figured out a better watering schedule, and it has paid off! Our garden has been producing like crazy! Dustin took it upon himself to deal with all the tomatoes this year and that has been lovely. He has been making salsa and spaghetti sauce and it has been really yummy!
Maren was able to go to the temple a few times while in the Provo MTC. She was there for 2 weeks, and then she flew on to Roseville, California for the rest of her mission! She has already learned so much and gained confidence and it has been so neat to see!
