Grant's Big Day(s)

Grant turned 7 this week.  Wow!  The last seven years flew by, and I'm a little nervous for how fast the next seven will go.  Watching my kids grow up is a little surreal for me.  I swear, I just had Grant a year or so ago.  Maybe two.
But, no, there were definitely seven candles on that cake.  He wanted a tiered shark cake.  Thank goodness for gummy sharks.  The older my kids get, the worse my cakes get.  Let's blame it on time.  I just don't have the time to make it amazing.  Because I'm sure I could have made it amazing...
 Attempting to read Grandpa's handwriting.

Lynnette and her girls and Gramma Lana came to the party.  He was a happy kid!  Earlier that day Dustin and I had gone to his school class to talk about him.  He did most of the talking.  We brought balloons so he could show his class how he can make balloon animals.  We nearly caused a riot because it was a substitute teacher and there wasn't enough time to make the animals for the whole class.  That poor teacher!
At the end of the week Grant had a friend birthday party.  He chose an angry bird theme, and we actually found a lot of fun things to do with it.  Thank you internet!
Some blue and red (mauve) angry birds cupcakes.
 A pinata piggie to beat.
We started out by making catapults out of popsicle sticks.  And we used pom poms as angry birds to launch.
We also decorated a balloon and a bag to look like angry birds.
 They turned out pretty cute.
We had a life size slingshot to try and hit some life size piggies with water balloons.
 Look at those piggies!
We weren't too successful with the slingshot, so we switched to towels.  We weren't too successful again, so the kids just started chucking them at the pigs.  Poor pigs.
Then we played this angry bird game.  Boxes and pigs stacked up, with balls to throw to try and knock the boxes down.  This one entertained the boys for a long time.  The girls played on the swingset.

Eating our cupcakes and ice cream.
Presents.  Woo hoo!  I think he is actually cheering here because he guessed who told him "Happy Birthday" in the game we were playing.  He had his eyes covered and someone would say happy birthday in a funny voice and he'd try to guess who it was and then open their present.

 And then the pinata.
 Candy!
Grant is such a fun part of our family!  Sometimes he is confident and competent, involving himself in adult conversations and leading his own birthday discussion at school.  Other times he shy and timid and wants me to walk him to school and wait with him in his line and stand right up next to him the whole time.  He is very talented at putting together Legos.  He is a smart little guy and is becoming an excellent reader.  He gives wonderful hugs and kisses.  We love him so much!

Holy cow- you are motivated with parties! Were you completely exhausted afterwards? So much fun for Grant and his friends. Happy Birthday Grant!
